Update on improvements at Kyengera Hospital.

In February 2026, the Rotary Club of Cardiff West submitted a Global Grant application to the Rotary Foundation.  The project includes furnishing a Neonatal Ward and a Dental Clinic at The Mother of Mercy Hospital in Kyengera, a deprived part of Kampala.  It also includes funding a Paediatric Vocational Training Team to make 3 visits to the hospital over 3 years to update the resident healthcare professional in modern techniques.

The application was approved in March.  Preparatory work started immediately, installing wiring and power points, plumbing for handbasins, showers and toilets and tiling and decorating.  This has now been completed, the equipment has been ordered and we are awaiting delivery and installation.

The Vocational Training Team has been selected and consists of a consultant neonatal physician and two midwives.  The team will be led by Past District Governor Gillian Pearce, who has visited Uganda as a volunteer many times over the last 12 years and has led a number of Vocational Training Teams.  The team will travel to Uganda on 10th October and will spend one week at the hospital.

Many thanks to the Rotary Clubs and individuals who have contributed to this project.
