We are sorry to report the deaths of 2 of our earliest volunteers, Dr Eric Sturdy was a surgeon and a member of the Rotary Club of Newport who was one of the original members of the Doctor Bank Steering Committee in 1994. Eric travelled to Uganda with Founder Chairman George Mercer to visit mission hospitals that needed volunteers. Eric remained on the Management Committee as a Medical Advisor for many years.
Dr Bill Duff was a GP and a member of the Rotary Club of Porthcawl. Bill was the first Doctor Bank volunteer to visit Kamuli Mission Hospital and spent 7 weeks there in 1995. At that time it was unsafe for Europeans to travel alone in Uganda, so whenever he left the hospital grounds, he had to be accompanied by an armed guard.
